Message from the Dean
It is now the time we specially need emotional management; no matter due to the on-going COVID, environment change, economics, politics, or even work around us. We are experiencing the work we all call “new normal” or new things which will become normal things. This means we must adjust to the changes around us quickly and most efficiently.
Without exception, CMMU is also affected by this. It has been quite some time that we all “work from home”, teach on-line, meet via zoom, interact on screen, take an ATK test, or we take precaution by wearing a mask whenever we work together. All these measures affect our feelings unconsciously. Telling ourselves repeatedly that we are fine, we are okay, may not always be the right way in this situation.
I once read an article by Susan David and Christina Congleton from Harvard Business Review. They defined “Emotional Agility” as being aware of feelings or emotionally supple. Sometimes we try to control our unwanted emotions by ignoring them or expressing them in the opposite way. This suppression or expression that we are okay, the researchers studied them and found that whenever emotions did not get attention, they would become much stronger.
If we accept the emotions that are happening and not pretend that we are okay, we will be aware of our emotions. And, by acknowledging and accepting emotions, our heart will be healed better than ignoring them. To be aware of our emotions and become emotional agile, we must confront, step out and do things we believe in, and keep going. Who knows? After we have practiced accepting our emotions, we might be able to lead our life steadily and comfortably. My full moral support to every OneCMMU. We will fight and grow together.
